It’s been some time since my last newsletter on account of being focused on my book’s completion, my marketing agency’s, RTOWN, hiring needs and the milk-run that was getting two twenty-year-olds out of Ukraine and set up as refugees in Western Europe. On our last night in Kyiv, bombs rained in all night. More gifts from Russia as Ukraine continues to shield the West from this needless and unjustified war.
i cannot tell you how deeply Ukraine touched my heart. The churches are alive with prayer, song, devotion and love. And, these days, some desperation too. The feelings cut deep.
Ukraine is alive with Spirit. The people in every corner of the country, in spite of war, hardship and loss, are just so kind. Despite it being bombed almost daily, i felt safer — in Lviv, Kyiv and in the southern parts of Ukraine we traveled — than most Western cities. Yes, i oddly felt safer in Ukraine during wartime than i did in Vancouver all summer.
Lastly but definitely NOT least, the food culture in Ukraine is insanely good! i wasn’t sure at first if we were just getting lucky with our meals. Basic places were making me feel like they deserved a Michelin star. Then it was just like this with every single meal. A total WOW factor. Next to Japan, Ukraine is my second favorite food culture on earth now. It boggles me that Thai, Indian, Italian, Japanese have exported all over the world but most have no idea how insanely good Ukrainian cuisine is. i can’t say enough! But who has time for that? 😉
